Michelle Montague
Michelle's landscapes combine the influences of abstract and expressionism art. Always influenced by the environment and life experiences Michelle has been using the artistic medium of drawing and painting since the age of eight. Since returning to Toronto in 1996 she has graduated in Marketing Management at Centennial College, earned a BFA in Fine Art at Ontario College of Art & Design and have exhibited works in partnership with the Canadian Human Rights Commission in addition to select galleries in the GTA area.
Her works are home to various private collectors in Toronto, Windsor, Winnipeg and St. John's, Newfoundland.
The focus of my work often involves manipulation of everyday, realistic landscapes and their transformation into parallel environments. Once transformed, these pieces become timeless monuments, losing any historical reference they might have had previously. They are non-linear snapshots of reality, only concerned with the moment at hand. Through this imagery my objective is to further consider the interconnections between nature and the built environments - nature as something that is forged by our living planet, and the built environments as manufactured by humans and technology.
